horsetail; your forgotten fascia; and your body’s blueprint.

Fascia may act similar to a fungi’s mycelium network; connecting memory and sensation and tracing the body’s blueprint of itself. And horsetail -the oldest medicinal herb on the planet- may

When fascia was first dissected in the 19th century, the surgeon proclaimed it ‘a natural bandage’; it’s an uninterrupted, gloopy, fibrous tissue made of protein (collagen and elastin, and water), that keeps organs and muscles in place, and -it seems- might hold somatic memories and be able to communicate messages throughout the body faster than the nervous system.

The fascia touch the entire body from head to toe, utterly interrupted, and it even travels as deep as each cell’s nucleus. The health of the fascia, and therefore the health of everything it ouches, depends on its pliability, its flexibility, its ability to stretch and bend and be resilient to movement and this type of resilience comes from collagen.

Horsetail too, travels deep into the connective tissues of the body; it contains silica which is essential for synthesis of collagen : the core ingredient of fascia itself.

One of the core parts of fascia health and structural integrity is hydration, but not just drinking enough water, cellular hydration, deep deep integration of fluids. Often, our water is de-mineralised and we might ‘drink enough’ but never hydrate causing rigidity.

Horsetail is full of minerals and electrolytes including sodium, potassium, magnesiumm and calcium. Infused in water, it’s excellent for rehydration.

Horsetail contains the imprint of a memory hundreds-of-thousands of years old, it knows us, it’s older than us, it’s seen humanities genesis, and co-evolved with us; the fascia, likewise, is formed as a collection of memories and somatosensory experiences.

I think, at least, they make a great pair.
